Description
of Choruses
CHORUS
6
This choral ensemble is the foundation of the choral music program
at Kemps Landing. It is made up exclusively of sixth graders. This
choir sings in two-part voicing. Emphasis is placed on understanding
music reading skills essential to the interpretation of a written
score. Accurate pitch and tone production, breathing technique, diction,
and part-singing will also be stressed. Students will develop an introductory
skill level of sight-singing and melodic and rhythmic dictation. Sixth
grade students will have the opportunity to individually audition
for the All-City Chorus. The group will perform in school concerts
as well as participating in the Chorus musical.
CHORUS
7
This choir is the second level of our KLMS choral program. Students
must successfully complete Chorus 6 or receive permission from the
director to advance to Chorus 7. This group sings in two-part and
three-part mixed voicings. Students are expected to demonstrate increased
skills in music fundamentals, music reading and vocal development.
An awareness of blend, balance, tone production, and sensitivity to
musical direction will be stressed. Students will develop an intermediate
skill level of sight-singing and melodic and rhythmic dictation. Seventh
grade students will have the opportunity to individually audition
for the All-District Chorus. The group will perform in school concerts
as well as participating in the Chorus musical.
CHORUS
8
Membership in this group is based on ability, attitude, commitment,
experience, and successful completion of Chorus 6 and 7, or by the
recommendation of the teacher. Chorus 8 sings in two-part, three-part
and four-part voicings, depending on the vocal characteristics of
its members. Emphasis will be placed on artistic performance and interpretation
of the written score with increasing vocal maturity and flexibility.
Students will be developing into independent singers, striving to
achieve the highest level of musicianship in choral music. Students
will develop an advanced intermediate skill level of sight-singing
and melodic and rhythmic dictation. Eighth grade students will have
the opportunity to individually audition for the All-District Chorus.
This group will perform in all school concerts, participate in all
aspects of producing and performing the Chorus musical, and may have
some additional opportunities to sing at school and in the community.
…..from
the Director
Welcome to the choral music program of Kemps Landing Magnet School!
You are a very important member of a great musical organization. At
Kemps Landing we teach music because we know that studying the fine
arts is crucial to your success in school, as well as developing skills
and abilities that will be instrumental in your accomplishments throughout
life. I am very excited about this school year and the beautiful music
that each of the choirs will be singing. It is going to take a lot
of hard work and dedication on both of our parts to present the very
best in vocal music performance.
We
will be involved in many events this year including concerts, small
ensembles and our annual tradition of performing a Broadway musical.
It is a privilege to have the opportunity to direct such an exciting
music program. I know that I am going to enjoy working with you to
maintain the high quality of choral music that has become a tradition
at Kemps Landing.
I
wish you a wonderful school year and some memorable experiences in
learning and performing.
